Founding Partner

Ray Dovell began practicing architecture in 1980. He has extensive experience designing award-winning structures that combine economy, constructability, and durability with spatial clarity and architectural elegance.

Mr. Dovell’s projects have been recognized by numerous local and national awards; he was one of the principal designers of the New 42nd Street Studios building, which won a 2002 Honor Award for Design Excellence from the American Institute of Architects, and the addition to the Saginaw Art Museum, recipient of a 2004 American Architecture Award from the Chicago Athenaeum.

His recent work includes the new Edition Hotel at 20 Times Square in Manhattan as well as the Moise Safra Center on the Upper East Side. He’s also developed a specialty for the design of special needs educational facilities. His recent design work includes the new Reece School in Harlem, the LEED Gold® LearningSpring School on the East Side, and the renovation of the New-York Historical Society, which was awarded a 2013 Honor Award from the AIA New York Chapter.

Mr. Dovell received a Bachelor of Architecture from the Pratt Institute. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects and has served on the AIA New York Chapter’s Zoning Committee. He is currently on the Zoning Board of Appeals in Hastings-on-Hudson and acts periodically as a visiting design critic at Columbia University, City College, and Pratt Institute.
