The St. George Library of the New York Public Library System is the largest library on Staten Island. The building is three stories plus a basement, in a T-shaped configuration. Opened on June 26, 1907, the Library was designed by Carrère & Hastings. The NYC Department of Design and Construction (DDCNY) retained Platt Byard Dovell White Architects (PBDW) to perform architectural, engineering and construction-related services for Historic Preservation Projects under a Requirements Contract. The project includes slate and low-slope membrane roof replacement, and the restoration of the copper cornice and gutters. While the building is of landmark quality and eligible for listing on the New York State and National Registers of Historic Places.
